Blog Down For What? Part 5
I learned a lot about myself and what I need to work on through this class and my internship. I learned how much I don't want to sit at a boring job behind a desk but better yet I learned which work readiness skills I need to work on more. In class I learned how important it is to have a plan regarding everything financially and about my career path. In my internship I learned how to work with a boss and how to continue innovating what we do in an office.
Finance and Savings Interest
William, starts saving $4,000 a year (about $333.33 per month) when he is 20 and stops after 20 years, after having saved 155,244.76. --45 years until 65
His brother, James, starts saving $4,000 at 40, and does so for 25 years, for a total of 231,653.79 saved.
155,244.76--666,290.44
They earn 6% on their savings.
At age 65, William will have $666,290.44 in his account, while James will have $231,653.79 . Despite having saved less, William's nest egg will be almost three times greater because of compoundingI need to make sure I start saving early if I hope to have a strong retirement fund. If you put it off too long these savings are impossible to make up.

This summer I learned a lot of things. Things I knew but didn't know the importance of it throughout my life. I am grateful for this internship I had during the summer at a retail store because it helped me become more responsible and helped my tardiness habit. I am also thankful for the classes I took over the summer because it made me realize the importance of school and to get my life together and organized and everything will come along if you put the effort. Now I am motivated for my junior year. I realized that I was a disorganized person and wasn't sure of what I wanted to be or do in life. Now I am sure after this great experience in the summer even though my internship doesn't really have anything to do with criminal justice, which is what I want to major in, it was still great. I loved working with different kind of people and I also realized that helping someone is being very generous and not selfish. It felt good helping others around me.

My Summer Lessons!
Through this internship I have learn many things about myself. One is that I ;earn what my true passions were. I learn that I may have a character for what I want to study. I also learn that the things that I considered my weakness are some of my strengths. i learned I need to make better choice on the career to get the money I need.
The reflections we made in the Way book did not really make a difference to me, that being that I am use to doing this type of reflections. Sometimes I just felt that reflecting on this that did not even let you know the definitions of the classifications.
Using electronics resources was not new to me, however, Blogger was and to be completely honest I did not enjoy using it or writing on it. This is personal opinion that I am no confident enough in my writing and I was obligated to shared with others, others that might read any of this posts.
I did enjoy using Google docs for my documents in my internship, that being I had access to my work at any time and anywhere.
During my Internship and summer to career class helped me to work on my work readiness skills. Some of them being be able to tolerate people in general. Learn to have better dedication and always tell the true even of the situation is bad.
I consider myself lucky because I am able to talk with Attorneys, Officer, and judges. I consider myself lucky not many students in the United states get to Intern in the Public Defenders Office. I consider myself lucky because I got to learn how Lawyers think before law school, where cultural shocks occur. I consider myself lucky because I have food in the table and warm bed to sleep.

Over the summer I have learned a lot. My internship was maybe not the most well suited to my interests and maybe not the most challenging, but certain elements of it forced me to challenge myself and step out side of my comfort zone. It exposed me to and helped me gain experience in a new field of work. I think that is what I'm most grateful for. I had never worked in a standard office setting before and as we know quite a few jobs take place in these kind of environments. The experience and knowledge about how a corporate office is run and also the writing experience that I gained from this internship will probably benefit me most in the future so they are the things I'm most grateful for. I also learned some very important information from the career class. The most important of which was probably about the career readiness skills. I was and probably still am lacking experience and confidence in some of these areas, however I feel like I now understand exactly what an employer is looking for in an employee and will be better prepared in the future for similar situations. One of the big examples of how I grew in this area was my professionalism and diligence. I have a pretty relaxed demeanor which can sometimes mean that I forget the setting that I am working in, so I may not always appear as professional at some times than others times. I really was forced to think about this through the career class and then apply what I had learned to my internship. The other area diligence, I had to learn the hard way. I was creating these job postings and There were a couple errors in some of them of course I copy and pasted the same job posting onto multiple websites. As soon as I realized I had to go back to each website and fix the mistakes. This only happened because I was not paying close enough attention to my work which is no excuse considering the fact that we now have spell check. Throughout the rest of my internship I made sure to always double check my work. I know this skill will benefit me in multiple areas from school to an internship so I'm glad I have learned my lesson. One of the things I am most grateful for is that I didn't waste my summer. I would have loved to just lay on the couch reading and drinking iced tea all summer however I didn't I gained work experience, writing experience, and also social experience through this internship. Over all I am glad that I invested this summer in my future and hope that the lessons and skills that I have gained will follow me through out my career in school and then work.
week #5 coming to a close!
I am grateful that I have enough money to survive in this world. This summer I am grateful that I am going to Hawaii in a week. In class I learned how to be safer with money by budgeting it. Doing so will help me in the future. Through the 5 weeks of my internship I've notice I've been more dedicated than I was. I managed my time better which made things a lot easier and not so stressful. I learned that I can get stuff done faster if I manage my time well. The discoveries made me realize who I am. Especially setting goals for myself, instead of keeping them in my mind, putting them on paper makes a huge difference. Communication is something I really got out of this class, just hearing how important it was to communicate well made me realize I had to get better at that in order to succeed for the real world. The career readiness skill had me reflect on how important honesty is. I wasn't the most honest person to my supervisor and I came to understand that honesty can reflect who you are as a person. I feel honored that I was able to attend this class. It really helped me to understand life out there in the real world and I am very thankful for that.

This makes me think that I need to start saving as soon as possible.

In the internship class this summer, I am grateful to learn about the work readiness skills and how to be a professional person in the business world. The experience will help me to secure and keep jobs later on in life. I have learned how to create a resume and cover letter that will help me in securing job positions. The class has also helped me to grow more comfortable to a business environment.
In my internship this summer, I am grateful for being given the opportunity. This experience will go on my college applications and show that I'm a determined person. The internship has also helped me grow as a person and better understand the path I want to take in college.
From the internship, I have learned that I am not a person that can stay behind a desk all day and do mindless work. I need to do something with purpose that will keep me fully interested.
From doing discoveries in class, I have found that I need to be more aware of my finances and the expenses I have so I can create a budget for certain things. This will help me save money for college and any other expenses that will come in the future.
In the class this summer, I have learned how to use sites like blogger and linkedin which will help in the business world in the future. I have also learned valuable social skills from working in an office environment. I am now not afraid to ask questions if needed and I can keep a friendly and positive attitude while at work. I learned to also keep as organized as possible to avoid mistakes while on the job.
I am extremely lucky to have received the opportunity to participate in this class and internship.

This makes me think that if I continue to save as I have until I graduate college, I will have saved $10,375 which is will be helpful in paying for additional schooling, or renting an apartment, or maybe even buying or leasing a car. I can even add more if I wanted to (by getting a more fuel efficient car, making a better budget) and planning for when I am not working (when the pool is closed for the winter!)

Week 5
I am grateful for having the opportunity this summer to work in a kitchen and get the experience I need to pursue my career goal. This internship was both interesting and helpful. It helped me know for sure that this is the field of work I want to enter, and I am very grateful for that. Every one of my coworkers was always so kind, it felt like joining another family, even though I was only there for 6 short weeks. It makes me want to apply for a job there once my schedule opens up so I can continue to do something I am happy doing with people that make me feel at home.
I am also grateful for learning about budgeting my finances this summer in class, as well as learning a little about my strenghts and weaknesses and how they can effect my career.
If I had not done this internship, my summer would've likely been a lot of water polo and a lot of sitting at home doing nothing important, so I am grateful I had the chance to do something fun and beneficial this summer.

I am grateful that I got the opportunity to take this class and to have this internship. It kept my summer busy but not too busy and as a result I learned learned a lot of useful skills in marketing, advertising, and event planning and I learned about what its going to be like to be a working adult.
As for my internship I'm so happy that I was allowed to be as involved as I was. I was trusted with many tasks and my opinion was often asked. I learned how to work in Wordpress and Constant Contact. I'm so lucky that I got to have such a hands-on internship.
During the class I really enjoyed learning more about myself from the Waybook activities and discoveries. I discovered that I value relationships, leisure, and I'm very curious about the world. I also thought that the financial planning exercises were very helpful and eye opening in realizing how much it costs to live.
The technical skills and career readiness skills I learned in class really transferred over into my internship. My internship required a lot of online work so using Google sites and learning how to save things as pdfs was really helpful. Although I think I already had many of the career readiness skills down, I could really see myself improving on being professional and being able to communicate more effectively each time I came to class or went to my internship.
I am very thankful I was offered this opportunity to learn such great skills and prepare me for being an adult. Not everyone gets to do this!

- In about 5 to 10 years the total of my future expenses each year are probably going to be around $100,000. I know this is logical because my primary sources for information are what my family spends per year and an article in the New York Times called Estimating Expenses Before Buying Your First Home. This may be less depending on where I choose to live, considering Marin County is so expensive.
- According to actstudent.org I can likely count on (hope on) making $193,000 each year in my (hopefully) future job as a Foreign Service Officer. My education/training to get that job will cost about $30,000 total for all years of training, depending on where I want to go. That number includes housing, book, healthcare, etc. Thankfully my parents will be paying for that and I will help them out as much as possible by applying for scholarships and paying them back later in life when I can.
- I want to save $12,000 for my rainy day fund each year and $9000 for retirement each year. If I save $23,000 for retirement each year, by the time I am 65 years old I will have $966,000 plus interest.
- Comparing my future income and expenses makes me think that there is a lot to consider when making major life decisions such as these and nothing is guaranteed.I haven't factored in children and a husband and that makes everything change. Even though I have it all planned out now, my life and expenses could turn out totally different.
Week 5: Gratitude
I am grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of my internship. I met so many amazing people throughout the summer and they all had their own stories and different jobs that I got to learn about. I am most thankful for meeting my supervisor(s) because they taught me so much and welcomed me with open arms and trusted me to help them. I have met some of the nicest people through my internship and I am grateful to have met them and learned about what they do with Kaiser Permanente. I am grateful for my time with Employee Wellness and Health Education and will always be glad to visit or volunteer when they need me!
I am thankful for this class as a whole because it taught me so many things that were helpful now, could have been helpful in the past, and will definitely be of great use in the future. I know I am prepared to apply for any job or internship with a great application, resume, and knowledge of how to create a cover letter. Additionally, I also know how to act at my job now and any future jobs I have because of the work readiness skills, but also because I have learned about myself through the quizzes and reflections we have done in class. I have learned to prioritize things in life, and prioritize values and strengths to become a better person in the work place and in life.

My internship was great. I am grateful for the experience it gave me and all the knowledge I gained. The class was also great, I am grateful for how it taught me to be a more professional person and how to budget for the future. At my internship I worked with market makers using the MJT software to trade options on the NYSE ARCA Options floor in San Francisco. This taught me valuable skills that only a select few have. After completing my internship with MJT I have a much better idea of what I want to do for a career after college. My internship also taught me how to be professional and how to act in a place of business.
I plan to continue my internship for the rest of the summer as well as next summer. Thanks to this experience I am now much more competitive for college applications and future job applications. As we all know that is very important these days.

I enjoyed my internship very much this summer. I am grateful to have been approached and offered the opportunity to hold such a professional internship position and left with a valuable experience. I learned a lot of information about stocks and options and also improved my skills in communication, business over all, and programs such as excel and the MJT software.
I am grateful for my internship with NYSE and MJT Software Development, it was a very good and professional experience and this internship definitely influenced my career path in business. I feel that I am way more prepared for the world of business after both this internship and the class as well and I was introduced to skills and assets I was unaware that I had.
I am looking forward to continuing my internship for the rest of the summer and my supervisor as well has even offered the opportunity to come back again next summer which I am looking forward to. Thanks to this experience and class I feel I have boosted my own worth in the sense that I am leaving with a leg up on others in the future when joining the job race; having gained priceless knowledge and understanding through hands on work, I feel that this has set me apart from others and from here I can only look to go.
Blog Week 5
I'm grateful that I got to do some tasks at my internship that were interesting and meaningful. When I first started, I came in a little cynical. I expected to be doing a lot of copying, filing, etc. While I did do some of this, it was a pleasant surprise to be handed a project on my first day that seemed pretty important. I had to go through a huge case file (I work at a law office), and gain an understanding of the case I would be involved with. It was cool because as I was going through the file, my supervisor would come in and talk with me about what I thought about the case. This made me feel like what I thought about it was actually relevant and really motivated me to work hard on the next project I received. I am really grateful to my supervisor for that because I found that the more I got involved in the case, the more interesting it became. My summer would have definitely been a lot more boring if I hadn't done this internship.
I am also grateful for having access to the MCOE class because I think I learned a lot in it. All of those tests I took on the waybook really taught me a lot about myself and my strengths and weaknesses. I remember on one of the tests it listed some of my lowest personality traits. Some of the traits that I thought were most important were in the bottom so over the next few weeks I really went out of my way to emphasize those traits as much as possible. I think now, after that, I can say that can say that those traits are higher on he list. I'm grateful that the class alerted me that I wasn't traits I value so highly, so I could change that.
Welll, see you all....
I am also grateful for having access to the MCOE class because I think I learned a lot in it. Week 5- Reflection
My internship was fantastic! I learned a lot about myself- such as I have to take initiative and listen closely, and ask questions when I don't understand. I'm very grateful for this internship (and was even asked to continue on through the year.) I enjoyed the explorations we made in class (with waybook), and reflecting on goals and thoughts through each week. I also enjoyed the budgeting section we did in class- it made me think a little more about how I was spending, and that I could probably cut down a little on toys and cat related stuff.
A great thing I learned and actually thoroughly enjoyed at my internship was probably the courtroom procedures. It was a fresh change from Law and Order or CSI, and I'm really glad I got to snag this internship. It's not every day one gets to have an internship at the District Attorney's Office and get to see the inner workings of the prosecuting world.
I did enjoy learning more about my personality through the waybook explorations, although I did score a 38 on the Autism exam thing. The norm was about 16- so I'm a little concerned. I'll try not to take it to heart though. (Maybe I do have Autism???)
This was a great way to spend part of my summer, honestly. I thoroughly enjoyed it all, and I exercised my patience throughout it all (in court- some cases just have extremely long breaks in between). I also do quite enjoy my LinkedIn account and connecting with various people I've met in old jobs/volunteer work.

I am grateful for not being bored once so far this summer. I anticipated a few days over this long break to be filled with T.V. shows and pigging out by myself. However, because of my friends, my internship, and my internship class, I am happy to say that there has not been one day this summer when I have been bored and found nothing to do.
I am grateful for my internship at Fireman's Fund because it was an amazing experience getting a feel for the corporate office world. I loved the fact that I was getting paid for doing an internship because that is not too common. I learned a lot throughout the last 6 weeks and I feel so lucky that I got the chance to prepare myself for the real working world by working in an office environment.
I am also grateful for my weekly internship class because I learned a lot about how to approach and be successful during my internship. I liked the fact that I got some school credits for attending this class. I believe I improved my work readiness skills to the point where I definitely know how to be professional when I finally start my real career.
Most of all, I am grateful that I did not let this summer go to waste.

Week 5 Blog
This summer was very different from my past summers. I'm grateful for the opportunity to explore a career that I'm interested in.
Being in the internship class this summer gave me some valuable insight into the professional world. I was able to explore my personality and strengths, which will help me a lot later in life when I'm looking for a job that suits me. In addition, I learned how to look into the future and calculate expenses, then look into careers that would support this type of lifestyle. I didn't previously know how much valuable information could be found online in order to help you plan for the future. I found it mind boggling how different some careers can be, and the level of preparation needed to go into them. Lastly, I think that creating a LinkedIn profile was a good idea, as it is a valuable tool to help us future professionals find opportunities for work.
At my internship, I think the most valuable thing I got was the experience of working in a real office environment as a contributing team member. Before this internship, I had never worked, and had no idea what to expect. Now, I feel like work is less of an unknown, and I am less intimidated by the prospect of working. I really enjoyed being productive and getting to know all of my coworkers. Additionally, one Career Readiness Skill that I lacked coming into the internship was good communication skills. Throughout the internship, I continually found myself having to communicate in order to get things done. This forced me to quickly develop valuable communication skills that I will most definitely use later in life.
Over the past five weeks, I went from no knowledge of the working world, to having some knowledge and a positive experience working with others. I feel very lucky for being able to attend this program through Marin County, and my high school. I can only imagine the difficulty of coordinating it all, and feel fortunate that I live in an area that takes such interest in the future of its youth. I am also very grateful for the opportunity to have worked in a caring local business. For myself, I have taken small steps on the way to my future career. Also, this class and the internship kept me busy, making me feel like this was a summer well spent.
I have really appreciated this opportunity. Thank you very much.

Blog # 5
I am extremely grateful for all of the incredible
experiences I have had this summer. I am very thankful to be taking a class
that offers practical application to later in life. Most, if not all of the
information I learned at the Summer Career Academy, I will use in my work and
living efforts. These include how to be professional, managing a budget, and
how to best present myself for an employer.
The Waybook offered me an opportunity to reflect on myself
as well and find my motivations and what work and expenses best suited me based
on my own interests and values. I now have a better understanding of myself,
which will lead to better financial decisions because I will understand my
motivations and true desires and I am very grateful for that.
I also, through the information we learned on career
readiness skills, was able to develop myself into a strong applicant for any
job I apply to. I learned the importance of diligence and professionalism
exceptionally well. I am also grateful for learning how to use a variety of
computer tools such as Google drive and Google sites, which really improved my
computer literacy.
I am very grateful to have made strong connections with
local businesses through my internship and learn the inner-workings of
business. I really had no idea how a business worked before participating in
this program. I now know what it takes to be successful in the business world,
such as strong organization, professional and friendly interaction, as well as
diligent work. This understanding is all because of the experience I gained at
the Sausalito Chamber of Commerce.
I am very glad I participated in this program. I will never
forget the lessons I learned from it.
