Now that I've caught your attention...
I intern at the District Attorney's office and a murder trial was up, so naturally, I headed down to the courtroom to see the proceedings. In court, no matter what someone says, you have to have to have to be tolerant of their opinion and be respectful of what the attorney's and judge says, no matter how much you disagree with what they're saying. Keeping an open mind was important, and this all came naturally, so it impacted my work pretty positively. It's interesting to hear both sides of a story and realize that there are a lot of cracks here and there, and you should open your mind to form your own opinion.
This week though, the murder trial was halted until August, so I was headed back down to file cases and photocopy covers. The files needed to be in order though, and there were a lot, and since I'm a generally unorganized person, I really had to work at it to keep everything neat and orderly and in their correct piles. What helped was sectioning off areas for specific cases (i.e one for DUI's, one for Domestic Violence, one for robberies, etc). I couldn't just toss everything into one area and hope for the best.
Before the murder trial was halted though, I would stay late (beyond my intern hours) and just study the case and listen to the preliminary hearings, and I suppose this falls into dedication. I found the murder very interesting (although it is wrong to kill people) and spent a lot of free time doing this. I would analyse all the what-ifs and sit through the two hour long DVD of the killer's interview. If I was as dedicated to other things like this case, I would be excelling in life. But I am not as dedicated to other things such as my Spanish homework, so maybe this kind of dedication and practice would effectively improve my future.
I hope you guys are having fun at your internships as well!
Nice job this week! It sounds like you have a really fun internship!
