I haven't actually started my internship yet. I have my orientation on July 3rd and I will be working with the fire department. But, for my interview, I tried to display promptness and express my willingness and ability to work with others (both of which are Work Readiness Skills). I believe both of these helped me get a spot in this internship because out of the twelve people that applied, there were only five people chosen for this opportunity.
The interview process is never really easy. It was a stressful situation and I went into it with the mindset that I wasn't going to get it. I had heard that it was going to be a very competitive interview aimed towards women who wanted to for-sure go into a fire service career, which isn't what I want to do. But, I stayed positive and I tried my best to feel calm and comfortable while answering the questions. I guess I learned just to remain calm and go about the interview with a more casual mindset instead of looking at it as an overwhelming obstacle that I just have to get through. I have to remember to appreciate the experience that I'll gain from the interview, even if I don't make the cut.
I need to work on my attendance. That's a weak spot for me. I know I have to push myself to wake up and get out of bed earlier than I typically would like to. I think it mostly just comes out of laziness. I just have to power through it.
That's a great attitude towards not starting your internship yet! Props to you!
