I am an incoming junior into San Marin High School. I will be my school's debate team president next year, so I hope I can do a good job leading the team. I want to increase participation among the members of the team and also grow our team a little larger, as we lost a lot of people last year. I also want to enter our team into more debate tournaments next year.
My debate coach will probably be one of my closest allies in achieving this goal. She has taught me everything I know about debate and has already taken steps to achieve the goals I stated above. She also knows the whole system surrounding entering tournaments and whatnot, which is invaluable. Another ally would be my co-president, a senior at San Marin. She already has lead the team before, so she knows how to do things. She can teach me how to fulfill the role of president and work with me to improve the team.
One habit that will help me with my goal is to always come in prepared. I don't like to "wing it". This can help me in our team meetings when we discuss ways to bring in new members or what tournaments to attend as it will help the whole meeting run smoother. One habit that I need to build is to start preparing longer in advance. In other words, I need to stop procrastinating. While I do always come in prepared, I always tend to put off that preparation until the last possible minute, which sometimes can cause me to rush, decreasing the quality of my work. Hopefully, breaking this habit can help me achieve my goals.
Being always prepared is an outstanding habit to have.
ReplyDeleteProcrastination can be difficult to overcome because it is so easy to do; I know I do it often. However if you hope to stop procrastinating it can be helpful to remember that the earlier you do your work, the more free time you will have later. That always motivates me to get work done early.
